Red Wings update

Par Mike Senske (Detroit Red Wings) Le Wednesday 15th January 2025 / 1:50pm

Detroit Red Wings GM Mike Senske made a big splash acquiring Nathan Mackinnon, and moving on from Tage Thompson, Kaapo Kakko, 2 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick. When asked about parting with the picks, Senske said to reporters - "F**k them picks, I want a cup."

Wow, what a quote from GM Senske. He is showing how serious he is about winning the championship. Mackinnon and Draisaitl will be centering their own lines, with Granlund now moving down the 3rd line after sharing time with Kaprizov and Draisaitl earlier in the season. The Wings were one of the best teams in the early part of the season, but the lack of defense has cost them big and their game plan to outscore the opponents has worn its welcome as they have slowly gone down the standings. Senske is hoping not only the addition of Mackinnon, but Alec Martinez and Erik Karlsson, can set up this team for success.

There is also an acquisition for Kiefer Sherwood in the midst of the season, when asked about this GM Senske stated "That Kiefer kid likes to hit, we love banging the body." Red Wings lead the league in hits with 1050.

Ducks Hire New GM

Par AOC (Anaheim Ducks) Le Monday 6th January 2025 / 10:48am

Ducks are pleased to announce that they have acquired the services of JP Talbot.

His first order of business is a complete overhaul of the team. There may be a couple players that are hands off, but that may change with the right offer.

This will be a new team, a competitive team. Stay tuned for the ride.

Sens Prospects Shine on World Junior Stage, But Curran Misses Out

Par Hunter Jones (Ottawa Senators) Le Sunday 22nd December 2024 / 3:00pm

As the 2024 World Junior Championship approaches, four Ottawa Senators prospects are set to represent their countries, while one notable name, Maxmilian Curran, faces disappointment. Here's how these young stars stack up heading into the tournament:

Axel Sandin Pellikka (Sweden)

In 25 games with Skellefteå AIK (SHL), Sandin Pellikka has tallied 8 goals and 14 assists. The Senators' 2023 first-round pick is a cornerstone of Team Sweden’s defense, captaining this years Team Sweden and bringing elite puck-moving and offensive skills to the lineup.

Tanner Molendyk (Canada)

Molendyk has racked up 4 goals and 17 assists in 21 WHL games for Saskatoon, earning a spot on Team Canada. A reliable two-way defenseman, he’s been a key contributor to his team’s success this season.

Andrew Gibson (Canada)

With 7 points (4G, 3A) in 26 OHL games for Sault Ste. Marie, Gibson’s steady defensive play secured him a role on Canada’s blue line. His physicality and smart positioning make him a valuable addition to the roster.

Joey Willis (USA)

Willis has shined with Saginaw in the OHL, posting 17 goals and 17 assists in 26 games. A dynamic forward with high hockey IQ, he’ll be a key piece of Team USA’s offensive attack.

Missing Out

Maxmilian Curran (Czechia)

Despite a strong WHL season (7G, 20A in 27 games), Curran was left off Team Czechia’s roster. While productive, his even plus/minus rating and lack of standout moments in high-pressure games may have influenced the decision. Curran’s omission is a setback, but he remains a promising prospect.

^Some of the above may actually get cut as some rosters weren't finalized.

I did fail to name Czech goalie Michael Hrabel as another Nordiques prospect attending.
